Committee reports favorably on bill clarifying seat-belt rule for golf carts on courses

Committee members reviewed a one-sentence clarification bill from Representative Wooten (H 4688) that says the seat-belt requirement for children 12 and younger does not apply to golf carts while those carts are operated on a golf course.

A sponsor explained that the clarification was requested to avoid an unintended consequence that would have forced golf courses to retrofit carts or enforce seat-belt rules during normal course operations. "This bill simply clarifies that the seat belt requirement for those 12 and younger does not apply to a golf cart while being operated on a golf course," the sponsor said.

The committee moved, seconded and reported the bill favorably by roll/voice. The clerk announced the result as "By a vote of 17, aye. With 1 absent, the bill is reported favorably."
