The Crown Point Historic Preservation Commission on March 23 approved Petition 2603, granting the demolition of a heavily fire-damaged dwelling and noting the owner intends to pursue replacement construction and may reuse the existing foundation.
Donna Lee, who identified herself as the property owner, described extensive interior and structural damage from fire, saying parts of the attic and main level are destroyed and that the fire "rekindled twice." She told the commission she has consulted a contractor who "believes that the foundation is secure" and that she hopes to rebuild and return with detailed plans for the commission's review.
A commissioner asked whether a fire report had been completed; Lee said she had not seen the fire report and was not certain whether the cause had been determined. Board members raised standard concerns about structural safety and the amount of salvageable historic fabric; the applicant and staff said they will continue coordination as the demolition and future building plans proceed.
The transcript records the property address inconsistently in meeting remarks and agenda entries (variously appearing as "119 North Grama," "119 North Brent," "119 North Grand," and similar variants). The commission approved demolition as requested; the approval covers demolition only. The applicant was instructed to return with building plans and additional details for any proposed reconstruction.
The motion to approve demolition passed on a roll-call vote.
