The Speedway roundabout is moving toward completion and a tentative ribbon-cutting is scheduled for May 19, Economic Director Kyle Markley told the Redevelopment Commission on March 23.
Markley said plantings and site finishing are progressing and that staff will begin work on phase 2 of Main Street to finalize designs and construction plans. He said the town intends to apply for a Community Crossings matching grant that may cover up to 50% of construction costs and that the July application deadline requires accelerating the design schedule.
Markley also reported a recent walkthrough of the 16th Street corridor with consultant Kimley Horn and said outreach will follow to gather community input on preferences for the corridor. He noted encroachment permit applications went out for Main Street earlier in the month and encouraged businesses that plan to place tables and chairs to apply so the town can approve the setups in time for race-season activity.
On events logistics, Markley outlined a concessionaire rental agreement approved by the commission that lets a vendor install two small electronic signs for race weekends; the sites are the lot near the speedway off 16th Street and a parcel off Conferenceville near Pam's Pit Stop Liquors. The agreement totals $3,000, with $1,500 paid per site, and the vendor would occupy the sites the Friday before a race and vacate by 9 p.m. after the race.
Markley additionally said Krone, the town’s financial adviser, will help upload the RDC annual report to state gateway ahead of required council sign-off by April 15.
The commission took no public comment and adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
