WEDC annual report: sales tax tops $20 million, property deals and incentive payments highlighted

The Wylie Economic Development Corporation presented its 2025 annual report to the City Council on March 24 and the council voted 7–0 to place the report on file.

WEDC Director Griner reviewed key financials and project highlights: staff said sales tax collections exceeded $20 million for the first time, rising by about 2.88% year over year, and reported land acquisitions and property sales tied to ongoing development projects. Griner said audited beginning fund balances were adjusted during the year and pointed to several performance agreements and incentive payouts.

Griner highlighted several high‑impact projects and incentives the board tracked, including Woodbridge Crossing (described as generating significant annual sales value) and recent headquarters relocations and local business expansions that the WEDC supported through incentive agreements. He also noted the board’s work on marketing, property packaging and development of the 544 Gateway and Cooper Plaza sites.

Council members thanked Griner and the WEDC board and moved to place the annual report on file. Councilman Dave Strang made the motion and Councilman David R. Duke seconded; the motion carried 7–0.
