The Fountain Green City Council on April 19 voted to approve alignment drawings for a grant-funded sidewalk project along 300 West and 400 West that will tie into the elementary-school sidewalk and avoid tree root balls, allowing staff to proceed with final plan/specification/estimate work.
Garrick, the project presenter, walked the council through alignment sheets and cross sections, explaining pedestrian ramps, the location relative to park and trees, and grading/drainage plans. He said the design will “stay away” from root balls and use a 3-to-1 slope where necessary. The city confirmed the fence will be shifted to accommodate the new walk.
Council discussed potential engineering costs that have already been incurred and the risk of jeopardizing future grants if the project were rejected. After a brief discussion the council moved, seconded and voted to approve the alignment so Garrick’s team can prepare the PS&E for UDOT and continue design.
Garrick said the next step is preparing the PS&E (plan, specification and estimate) and that small changes may still be possible before final submittal. Councilmembers emphasized protecting trees and ensuring smooth grade transitions to the school sidewalk.
The motion passed by voice vote; staff will return with final PS&E materials and cost estimates in follow-up meetings.
