The Angola City Common Council on March 16 reviewed and approved a package of tax-abatement determinations for several local manufacturers.
Mayor listed four items for combined consideration, asking staff to present compliance findings. City staff member Isaac (S3) reviewed the filings and told the council that "out of the 4, there is 1 that is due to expire" (the resolution labeled 2019-766), while the other filings appeared to be in compliance. He emphasized payroll as the key compliance indicator and said companies had met their stated payroll commitments.
A representative identified by staff as Chris Pantoro (S8) described recruiting and training efforts for Univertical, saying the company is "on our third group" of four-week rotations and that, although turnover exists, "we're getting... enough to handle" operations. Council members asked about hiring difficulty and wage pressures; staff and company representatives noted rising wages and training-related expectations.
Council praised the companies’ long histories in the city and approved the determinations by voice vote.
Why it matters: the abatements support local economic development and are tied to hiring and payroll commitments; approvals preserve tax incentives that companies say help sustain local operations.
What’s next: staff will record the approved determinations and continue annual monitoring per the abatement terms.
