Maple Grove plans bridge removal this winter; reconstruction expected in 2027

Public Works/Engineering Director Chris LaBounty told the Feb. 21 strategic planning session that the city’s 2025 pavement management plan will rely more on rehabilitation and mill‑and‑overlay projects to stretch funding and extend pavement life, and he reviewed projected five‑year mileage and trail projects.

On the 169 and Elm Creek Boulevard project, LaBounty said the city is on schedule to begin construction in September or October, with the existing bridge to be removed this winter and the project expected to be completed in summer 2027. He said the city expects to maintain highway access during construction and that some bridge elements could be reused in the rebuild.

Councilmembers asked for follow‑up details about trail snow‑plowing responsibility and the full scope of bridge replacement; LaBounty said he would provide additional information to council.
