The Oklahoma State Senate paused legislative business to recognize visiting guests and student achievements.
Senator Weaver introduced the Westmore High School aviation team, which won the inaugural Oklahoma High School Aviation State Championship. The chamber read a citation honoring the program and thanked the team's instructor, Norman Crow (Mr. Crowe), who told senators the students succeeded through teamwork and the support of career-tech funding.
Separately, the Senate adopted a resolution welcoming Senator Aubrey McCarthy of the Irish Senate and Philip Thompson, chief executive officer of the Irish nonprofit Tiglin. The resolution acknowledged historical ties between Ireland and Oklahoma, including a noted Choctaw donation to Ireland during the 1847 famine, and praised ongoing trade and cultural ties. Senator McCarthy addressed the Senate, thanked members for the reception and described Tiglin's work helping people facing addiction and homelessness in Ireland.
