The California State Senate on March 22 adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 132, designating March 22 as California STEAM Robotics Day.
Senator Ochoa Bogue presented the resolution on the floor, saying it recognizes the role of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics programs in preparing students for career-technical fields. "Proclaiming a California STEAM Robotics Day acknowledges the value of partnerships between our tech industry and our educational institutions," the senator said and asked colleagues for an "I" vote.
Senator Choi said she "rise[s] in strong support of Senate, concurrent resolution 132, establishing 03/22/2026 as California Steam Robotics Day," citing her experience as an educator and arguing that hands-on, experiential learning opens doors for students. Senator Weber Pearson and others echoed support, describing local robotics teams and STEM programs that bring students into engineering and technical careers.
Members noted the scope of participation cited in the resolution: the presenter and proponents referenced that 2,697 FIRST Robotics teams serve more than 35,000 California students, and they described partnerships that link classrooms with industry employers.
The resolution passed on voice and roll call with Ayes 34, No 0. After the vote, legislators invited student delegates and industry representatives to the chamber; the sponsor introduced Ethan Wynne, a Poway High School senior and robotics-team leader, and representatives of Garner Holt Productions, which supports STEAM and career-exploration programs.
The adoption is ceremonial and does not create new law; it names March 22 as a day to recognize robotics education and related partnerships and encourages continued support for STEAM programming across the state.
