Cities outline water and public‑works requests in informational presentations to capital committee

Three cities presented brief informational requests to the Capital Investment Committee on March 24.

Lonsdale (House File 34717): Representative Purcell (S11) introduced the city's request; Joel Erickson (S12), city administrator, said the 2023 water study recommended a second water tower and a water‑main loop to provide redundancy and improve fire protection. Erickson said a single main break could affect about 300 households and outlined a timeline with design in 2027 and construction in 2028.

Robbinsdale (House File 3365): Chair Freyberg (S15) described a $20 million request for a new public works facility to replace a failing 1950s building with leaking roof and inadequate bays. City Manager Tim Sandvik (S16) said the city has dedicated more than $1 million in planning and intends to provide local match for the project.

Crystal (House File 3463): Jesse Stroube (S17), director of public works for Crystal, described a roughly $26 million cooperative project to replace a 60+-year, 30‑inch water main that conveys more than 3 billion gallons annually and serves about 70,000 residents across three cities. Crystal requested $15 million from the state, with Hennepin County contributing $8 million and a $3.2 million local match.

All three presentations were informational; no committee votes were taken on these requests during the hearing.
