The Brooklyn Park City Council unanimously accepted the Recreation & Parks Advisory Commission (RPAC) 2026 work plan and confirmed multiple resident appointments to city advisory commissions.
RPAC’s chair outlined priorities including Bainwood, the opening and programming of Zainewood Recreation Center, expanded community gardens, park-safety coordination with police and parks staff, exploration of amplified sound and music in parks, and initial discussion of a destination sports facility. The commission also said it will continue advocacy for funding the Community Activity Center and vet alternatives should a state bonding bill fail.
Councilmember Erickson moved to accept the RPAC work plan; Councilmember Paige seconded. The council approved the plan by roll call, 7-0.
Following that vote the council considered and approved a series of appointments across multiple advisory bodies. Motions named appointees and terms (most effective 04/01/2026, mostly three-year terms expiring 04/01/2029). The slate included appointments to the Budget Advisory Commission, Community Long Range Improvement Commission, Human Rights Commission, Planning Commission, Recreation & Parks Advisory Commission, Emerging Leaders positions and youth-liaison seats. Roll-call tallies on those motions, where recorded, were typically unanimous or near-unanimous.
Mayor Winston noted staff will re-advertise any positions left unfilled after tonight’s appointments. Councilmembers praised RPAC and thanked volunteers for their service.
