Redevelopment director reports construction progress: new multi‑age playground, condo closings and facade work

The commission’s executive director gave a monthly redevelopment update highlighting several active projects across central Carmel.

On Monat Square North the director said the site’s work has moved quickly, noting, “There’s a gigantic 4 story playground that's already been half erected,” and encouraged commissioners to drive by to see progress. The director said the new playground is designed for all ages and contrasted it with the older Lucky Climber playground, which was intended for toddlers.

The director also outlined housing and retail progress: condo sales continue at San Mate and Magnolia, and The Muse is believed to be fully leased on the first floor. He said construction at a six‑square‑unit condo project is wrapping up and that some closings could begin within the next month or two. Other items reported included continued buildout at Hampton Crossing (Republic headquarters) and a hotel expansion, forthcoming Presidium 3 updates to City Council, favorable conditions at 111 South Range Line, progress at Icon including an open sales center, and final work at the AT&T site ahead of residential construction. The director praised staff coordination and singled out Justin Myers, the redevelopment director of construction, for his role on site.

He closed by noting rapid ongoing facade improvements at Audubon Plaza and invited questions; commissioners offered brief, non-substantive remarks and no further action was taken at the meeting.
