Commissioners heard a staff presentation about a roughly 20-acre parcel south of County Road 466 that the towns parks director suggested could become a future recreation or community center site. A staff representative said the owners representative told staff the asking price was $75,000 per acre, for a total near $1.5 million, and recommended using parks-and-recreation impact fees to purchase the land without incurring debt.
Commissioners asked about the possibility of making counteroffers, whether the town should involve the town manager and legal staff in negotiations, and whether nearby county-owned land (noting capped landfill constraints) might be relevant. Public works staff explained monitoring wells and development restraints on some adjacent county parcels; staff said the parcel is high ground and well sited for a family-centered park or recreation facility.
A commissioner moved to authorize staff to proceed with negotiations for potential purchase and return to the commission with contract terms; another commissioner seconded. The commission approved the motion by roll call. Staff will negotiate terms and bring a proposed contract back for formal approval.
