Cloud County commissioners voted unanimously Dec. 22 to reassign the county's hauling contract with Hamm Quarry, LLC to Allied Waste System, Inc. and its affiliates, including Prairie Landfill, LLC. The motion was made by Commissioner Dannie Kearn and seconded by Commissioner Ron Copple.
Solid Waste Director Mike Hake told the board he had reviewed the state's safety evaluation and completed recommended corrections. Hake also reported a change of ownership at Hamm Quarry and presented bids to repair a county truck: Curts Body Shop for $1,868.00, Taylor Knox Auto Body, LLC for $2,346.00 and Concordia Collision Repair for $2,520.92. The board approved the reassignment to maintain hauling services under the new ownership arrangement.
The board also recognized the upcoming retirement of Solid Waste employee David Walker, effective Dec. 31, 2025. Jason Hamm of Brome Ridge spoke to commissioners about Solid Waste and recycling charges for a local campground and how those fees may be applied under the new contract arrangement.
The action formalizes the county's business relationship with Allied Waste System and its Prairie Landfill affiliate; no vote tallies beyond a unanimous board vote were recorded. The board moved on to other agenda items later in the session.
