Committee approves substitute for vehicle-registration bill and sets supplemental calendar

The committee heard a substitute amendment to SB 384 (LC39509S) that adds a five-year tag option and removes outdated physical decals. The sponsor argued the decal removal would save local governments roughly $5.5–6 million annually and that online systems now obviate the need for decals.

A motion and a second were called to approve the substitute; no opposition was voiced and the chair announced the substitute was approved by voice vote. The committee then set a supplemental calendar for the day, placing, among others, Senate Bills 23, 284, the substituted SB 384, 395 and additional items on the calendar after motions and seconds were made and no opposition was recorded.

The chair also scheduled a rules meeting for 9 a.m. Monday and reminded members to consult staff (Pam) if they had not already done so. The committee adjourned following those administrative actions.
