The Elkhart City Board of Zoning Appeals on March 12 approved variances to allow larger wall signage and a slightly larger projecting (blade) sign for a tenant at 101 S. Main St.
Alan Stenberg, senior vice president of marketing at Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, told the board the requested sign sizes are intended to be proportional to the building’s façade and consistent with nearby signage. “We’re super excited to serve the members of Elkhart County,” he said, describing the sizing as reasonable relative to other downtown signs.
Staff noted the board previously granted similar relief in 2024 for a single-tenant sign on the building and recommended approval again, saying the infill building’s larger façade and intersection location are compatible with increased sign area. Staff also reported 37 notices were mailed and one returned in favor.
A board member moved to approve; the motion carried on a roll-call vote with all members present voting yes. No special conditions were attached.
