Londonderry Township — The Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors voted May 6 to adopt Ordinance 2024-05, rezoning a parcel owned by the Derry Township Municipal Authority (DTMA) from R-2 Residential to C-2 Commercial to preserve space for a sewage pumping station bordering State Route 230. The vote was 4 to 1, with Supervisor Anna Dale recorded in opposition.
Township Solicitor James Diamond opened the public hearing explaining “the purpose of the Public Hearing was to present an ordinance to revise the zoning from R-2 Residential to C2 Commercial for a small tract of land owned by DTMA located adjacent to traffic route SR 230 containing a sewage pumping station.” After public comment was closed, Manager David Blechertas summarized the request and the Board moved to a vote.
The motion to approve the ordinance was made by Supervisor Mike Geyer and seconded by Supervisor Mel Hershey. Following the ordinance approval the Board, on a subsequent motion, directed the Township Engineer to revise the official zoning map to reflect the change; that motion passed unanimously.
The minutes note the Solicitor’s reminder that a signed and certified copy of the ordinance must be submitted to Dauphin County within 30 days to complete the administrative filing. The ordinance identifies the parcel by tax ID 34-009-048-000-0000.
The rezoning preserves the site for continued municipal utility operations rather than new residential-only land uses. The Board did not discuss a commercial development proposal tied to the rezoned parcel during the meeting.
