School leaders used the board meeting to review the end of the school year and preview summer programming. Troy, introduced by the board as the elementary-school presenter, recapped the second annual ‘‘cross the bridge’’ ceremony for fifth graders and thanked parents, PTO volunteers and staff for organizing the event.
Troy reported, "There are presently 233 students signed up for summer school. Summer school begins June 10." Board members noted that enrollment is up compared with the previous short school year and called the increase a positive sign for participation. Troy also announced the retirement of Brenda Mittendorf, saying she taught in Cuba City for 37 years and will be missed.
Chris, presenting the middle and high school report, described a successful graduation night and the school’s scholarship program. "A 166 scholarships were handed out to 36 students, totaling $389,100," Chris said, and he thanked the teachers, coaches and volunteers who supported events and ceremonies throughout the year.
Why it matters: The scholarship totals and the stronger-than-expected summer-school sign-ups affect student supports and program planning for the district over the summer and into the next school year. Retirements and staff transitions mentioned during the report also signal upcoming personnel adjustments for the district’s administrative and instructional teams.
Next steps: Summer school will begin June 10; families were told to contact Cuba City Elementary School with questions and the district will continue planning for staff transitions and summer programming.
