The Fulton County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 30 approved a State Interconnectivity Grant totaling $230,699.51 to fund a set of 911-related maintenance and upgrade projects, and approved the pending hire of a Per Diem 911 Dispatcher.
EMA/911 Director Brian Barton presented the grant request, which the commissioners approved on a unanimous vote. The grant is to be used toward SouthCentral Mountain CAD Maintenance; SouthCentral Mountain CHE Maintenance; SouthCentral Mountain ESInet Maintenance; Fulton NG911 GIS Maintenance; SouthCentral Mountain Battery Upgrade; and Fulton ILEC Maintenance. The motion to accept and execute the grant was made by Commissioner Steven L. Wible.
In related personnel action, Commissioner Hervey P. Hann moved to hire Troy Wagaman as a Per Diem 911 Dispatcher, effective pending clearances; the motion passed unanimously. A brief Salary Board meeting convened at 9:48 a.m. to set the salary for the newly hired dispatcher. The transcript records presence of HR Administrator Mary Huston during these items.
Why it matters: The grant funds maintenance and upgrades to county 911 infrastructure and services; hiring an additional per-diem dispatcher increases staffing capacity to operate those systems. The transcript lists the grant amount and project uses but does not provide project schedules or implementation deadlines.
Next steps: County staff will execute grant paperwork and proceed with procurement and maintenance work under the grant terms; the new hire will begin after required clearances are completed.
