The City of Fulshear announced Primrose park’s grand opening will be held May 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and staff provided a construction and operations briefing at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
Matthew (introduced by staff as the project lead on Primrose) said phase 2 is nearing substantial completion and the contractor is addressing punch‑list items such as manhole adjustments and irrigation before the city will accept the work. “So about a month long process,” Matthew said of closing out those items, adding the contractor’s one‑year warranty would apply after acceptance.
Staff reported informal solicitations for shade structures returned bids substantially lower than earlier contractor estimates and that the city expects to secure suppliers for netting and other protective features. Commissioners raised spectator safety concerns — particularly foul balls in front parking — and supported plans to evaluate backstop netting above fields and additional AED locations. One commissioner suggested the city install multiple AEDs because the park covers 26 acres; staff said an AED pedestal is planned between Fields 3 and 4 and recommended locating another in the proposed first‑aid/storage structure.
Commissioners also asked when field rentals would go live; staff said the park will be open on May 9 and that rental launch timing will be announced once internal coordination is complete.
Why it matters: The Primrose opening expands city recreational capacity; details on safety infrastructure, field rentals and final acceptance affect how and when the public can use the new facilities.
Next steps: Staff will finish punch‑list items, confirm shade‑structure contracts and publish field‑rental dates prior to May 9.
