Madison County officials adopted two committee resolutions during a brief session, including a policy to review or retain closed-session minutes predating Dec. 31, 2023, and a resolution authorizing a settlement in a federal court case, a committee member said.
Mister Guy, a committee member presenting items on behalf of the executive committee and the finance and government operations committee, described the first resolution as “regarding the review and release or retention of closed session minutes for all periods prior to 12/31/2023 and destruction of verbatim recordings of closed session meeting minutes.” He added, “I just wanna point out we are not destroying any closed sessions.”
The second resolution, presented by Mister Guy on behalf of the finance and government operations committee, would authorize and approve a settlement resolving a case in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois; the transcript records the clerk reading case and court-claim file numbers as presented on the record. Mister Guy moved for adoption of both resolutions.
The Chair called for any comments or questions, conducted a roll call and, hearing none, announced, “Motion carries.” The transcript does not record individual vote tallies or the names of members who voted. Following the approvals, the Chair moved to adjourn and the meeting ended.
The actions adopt committee recommendations on record retention and authorize a legal settlement; the minutes and any follow-up implementation steps were not specified in the transcript.
