The Calhoun County Commission opened its March 28 meeting with a proclamation recognizing Social Work Month and received several public comments and county announcements.
Commissioner Wilson presented a proclamation recognizing Social Work Month to Calhoun County DHR Director Courtney Clark. Ms. Courtney Clark thanked county social workers for their work on behalf of the community.
During public comment, Judge Weems told commissioners the thermostats in her courtroom were not keeping the space sufficiently cool and said she had made repeated calls to maintenance; she asked the commission to help expedite installation of a wall-mounted unit. The commission took the comment under advisement and did not take immediate action at the meeting.
Audrey Maxwell, Chamber of Commerce Tourism Director, thanked Chairman Shears for attending a tourism meeting and promoted upcoming events on the Chamber’s website. Jakob Williamson, Chamber Public Affairs Coordinator, thanked commissioners and staff for attending the State of the County event. County Attorney and DHR Board member Gloria Floyd expressed appreciation for DHR Director Courtney Clark’s work.
Public Information Officer Brittany Reaves announced Calhoun County’s participation in the Alabama PALS spring clean-up program and reminded residents that supplies are available at the county landfill; Reaves also noted Landfill Free Day will be April 20. DHR employee Brandy Wilson noted April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and encouraged wearing blue to raise awareness. Leigha Cauthen, Chief External Affairs Officer at JSU, thanked the commission for its continued support.
Commissioner Henderson moved to adjourn at 10:33 a.m.; Commissioner Wilson seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The next regular meeting was announced for April 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
