Wilmot UHS administrators reviewed the district’s in-house GED Option 2 pathway and proposed formal GED test-preparation classes for students who are 17 or older and behind in credits. Administration said the state allows Option 2 and that the district already has examples of students who have completed GED subject tests through the program.
Don/administration described plans to code specific GED prep courses (for example, GED Test Prep: Math and GED Test Prep: ELA) in the student information system so those classes appear on student schedules and transcript records rather than being recorded as generic independent study. The district noted one student has already graduated using the option and emphasized that the courses would provide structured preparation and additional reading supports where needed.
Administration provided a per-student estimate for course materials and prep of $340 and said it would also purchase prep books and incorporate reading supports for students reading at lower grade levels. The administration said the formal course proposal will be presented to the board for approval on May 22.
Next steps: the board will consider formal course approval at the May 22 meeting; if approved the district will add the course codes to the SIS and begin scheduling the classes for eligible students.
