Council discusses standardizing donation requests, favors MSD form and criteria

Council members discussed how to handle donation requests after a volunteer firefighter asked the town for a cash contribution to support Fourth of July races.

Members agreed the MSD donation form should be used and that applicants should present completed forms at a council meeting so the council can review supporting documentation. Town legal counsel recommended setting objective criteria and administrative thresholds for small donations to avoid overuse of council time; he noted higher amounts or donations of real property may trigger additional auditor and contract requirements.

The council asked staff to place the subject on a future workshop agenda, share the MSD form with members, and draft simple criteria (including an administrative approval threshold for small requests and required documentation for larger awards) ahead of the next meeting.
