Daniel Markley, speaking at the Duchesne County Library Board meeting in Roosevelt, said the library was awarded a Library Services and Technology Act grant to replace staff computers purchased in 2018. "We just barely got news that we were awarded the grant, and we are in the process of buying them," Markley said. He said the award will likely cover three staff machines, at roughly $1,000 each.
Markley told board members older library machines are becoming a security concern as Windows 11 rolls out. "Especially with this Windows 11 rollout, there's a security risk now," he said, adding that patron-facing computers are also starting to show age-related problems and will require replacement in coming cycles.
Board members asked about scale and timing. Markley said the initial grant will cover several staff stations and that the library will pursue additional purchases — noting an expectation that about seven patron machines may need replacement eventually. He described the grant as coming through the Library Services and Technology Act process and thanked the state consortium for support.
No formal vote or contract award was taken at the meeting; Markley said purchases are in process and that updated procurement details will be brought forward when available.
