The Bullhead City Parks & Recreation Commission on March 18 voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council approve a package of additional amenities at Hardeeville Cemetery.
Superintendent Heath told commissioners staff had circulated updated pictures and had discussed the project with the Colorado River Historical Society, which raised no objections. The proposal includes new headstone restoration and a small number of memorial benches and viewing areas intended to make the site safer and more accessible for visitors.
Commissioner Braun said he liked the idea of shaded viewing areas and benches but cautioned against converting the site to a picnic area. "If they're picnicking there, I don't know — there's something else for somebody who has to clean up after," he said, asking staff to limit seating to memorial and viewing uses.
TJ, a staff member who addressed the commission during discussion, clarified the intent: "That was never the intention...more or less just a bench for a viewing purpose of take a rest from the parking lot to the site area. Not so much picnic area," she said.
Superintendent Heath also emphasized routine maintenance and ranger patrols at the cemetery, noting staff replace flags, maintain lighting and pick up trash.
Commissioner (S8) moved that the commission recommend the additional amenities to the City Council; a second was recorded and the motion carried on a 5–0 vote.
The commission's recommendation will be transmitted to the City Council for consideration at a future council meeting.
