City staff briefed the council on a planned purchase of a new transit CCTV camera van to replace a 1999 Ford E‑450 currently used to inspect sewer lines.
Heather Kumpinski, the fleet administrative coordinator, said the new all‑wheel‑drive Ford Transit van will better access remote easements and include an updated camera system that integrates with the city's asset management software. The replacement was approved in the FY26 wastewater collection capital outlay budget, but the final quote ($269,171.16) exceeds the $250,000 line by about $19,171.16; staff proposed drawing the difference from the wastewater contingency account.
"This is for the purchase of a transit camera van... the purchase of the new transit camera van will be all wheel drive," Kumpinski said, adding the quote included a 12% discount obtained through HGAC Buy cooperative purchasing.
Kumpinski said staff will obtain usage numbers from utility maintenance to report how often the van is deployed and to help evaluate utilization going forward. Delivery is expected in 90 to 120 days after order.
Next steps: staff will provide usage data to council on request and, if the council approves the budget amendment or fund transfer, will complete the purchase via the HGAC Buy cooperative procurement.
