Jesse Katiska, the city’s building division supervisor, presented a quarterly update covering activities from Sept. 1 through the end of February and provided a short status update on projects.
Katiska said the division processed 665 permits in the reporting period, up from 527 the prior year, and completed 902 building inspections. He noted an uptick in contractor licensing (51 new license applications in the period) and said nearly 1,500 contractor licenses are active inside city limits. Katiska attributed increased activity in part to a mild winter that allowed continued construction work.
Project notes included facade and glass work at the Katy Building, progress on Sage Flats (a 103-unit apartment complex with a mix of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units), and the near-completion of 7 Brews Coffee, which Katiska said hopes to open in the next month.
Council members thanked staff for outreach at a recent home-builders show and for public engagement work at the booth. No formal action was taken; this report was informational.
