Deputy director Noah Trujillo told the commission that the department’s focus is summer staffing and programming: seasonal positions for pools and camps opened on March 2, and staff held recruiting events at Rio Rancho High School, Cleveland High School, Cibola High School and Explorer Academy to boost recruitment for lifeguards and summer camp roles.
"Seasonal positions opened March 2," Trujillo said, adding that the department is hiring pool managers, head lifeguards, lifeguards, junior lifeguards, cashiers for the pools, summer camp supervisors and camp counselors.
Trujillo also outlined the department’s spring event calendar: a spring craft show at the S. Grande Community Center this weekend, an "Eggs and Bacon" pet event at Cabazon Park on March 28, a shop‑local market and spring cleaning rummage sale in April, and the Park in the Park signature event at Campus Park in mid‑April. He said registration for a spring basketball league opens at the end of the month and that outdoor pools will be prepped next week.
Commissioner Edwards asked whether the department had a social‑media graphic for lifeguard recruiting; staff confirmed a graphic is posted and offered to email it to commissioners for sharing. Director Connie Peterson and other staff distributed flyers and a public art guide to commissioners and said they would circulate digital links.
The commission had no public‑forum speakers and adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
