Mantua — The Mantua Town Council heard a detailed report on sewer system repair work and invoices, including why costs were higher than the council originally anticipated.
Public Works (Marcus) explained that some point repairs turned out to be 10-inch sections rather than the typical 8-inch sections, making individual repairs substantially more expensive. He said the contractor’s invoice, which council members had previously seen in parts, totals nearly $42,000 when point repairs and cleaning are combined. Marcus described a separate stalactite removal task (approximately $2,550) and a lateral-launch camera inspection (about $3,300) performed as part of the work.
Council members asked why the total exceeded the initial approval. Staff said $32,000 had been approved previously for point repairs and an additional $12,000 for cleaning, which when combined matched the larger invoice; the apparent discrepancy in the minutes was attributed to how the prior approvals were presented in the packet. The auditor was consulted and advised that the council should approve the overage at the next regular meeting so the expense can be properly reflected in the town’s records.
