The Hancock County Finance, Fees and Salaries committee voted unanimously March 12 to approve new salary schedules for three county officers following an executive session on office-holder salaries.
The motion, made by Joe Boyles and seconded by Dennis Castlebury, passed on a roll call with all members present voting "yes." The approved schedule sets the treasurer's starting salary at $55,000 effective Dec. 1, 2026, with annual increases of $1,500 through Nov. 30, 2030. The circuit clerk's starting salary was set at $69,000 effective Dec. 1, 2026, with annual increases of $2,000 through Nov. 30, 2030. The county clerk's starting salary was set at $71,000 effective Dec. 1, 2026, with annual increases of $2,000 through Nov. 30, 2030.
The committee recessed to executive session at 9:38 a.m. to consider office-holder salaries and returned at 10:32 a.m., at which time the formal motion was made and approved. The roll call recorded the votes of Wayne Bollin, Harry Douglas, Dennis Castlebury, Joe Boyles, Alex Blythe, Lee Ann Lambert and Mark Menn; one member, Steve Lucie, was absent.
The approval implements multi-year step increases rather than a single lump-sum adjustment and sets effective start dates for the pay changes. No amendments to the amounts or schedules were recorded in the meeting minutes. The committee took no further public action tied to these salaries at the March meeting.
The panel recessed for the day at the close of business; it is scheduled to reconvene April 9.
