Grant County commissioners on March 16 approved a countywide tire-amnesty event for April 18 and agreed to extend Veteran Service Office appointment hours to improve access for working veterans.
Health department staff asked for preapproval to hold a tire-amnesty day April 18 at the county recycle center, allowing residents to bring up to 10 vehicle tires at no charge (tractor tires would carry a cost). The board approved the date subject to securing volunteer labor and directed staff not to advertise until labor is confirmed.
Veteran Service Office staff (Dylan) briefed the board on a state law change that shifts veteran property-tax deductions from an assessed-value deduction to a flat-dollar deduction. The VSO said the state plans to issue a new form in July; 100% disabled veterans will be automatically exempt from property taxes under the new approach, and others will get a flat-dollar deduction. County staff were instructed to perform outreach to veterans organizations, media and local outlets to ensure veterans file the new form after it is issued.
The board also approved a change to VSO office hours: Monday through Thursday appointments available until 6 p.m. (walk-ins not expected after 4 p.m.), and Fridays reserved for administrative work except for urgent appointments.
Commissioners stressed that after‑4 p.m. service would be by appointment only and directed VSO staff to update the board if the state’s form timeline changes.
