The Morgan County Redevelopment Commission approved routine business and heard legal and economic updates.
During opening business the commission approved the Feb. 11 minutes after Meredith moved to approve and a member named Troy Sprinkle was recorded as seconding the motion. The commission then adopted the financial report after a motion and approved claims in a voice vote. The record includes two different claim totals on the transcript: one speaker cited $99,324.33 as "what March claim should be," while the motion as recorded asked to approve claims for $9,324.33; the apparent discrepancy was not resolved on the record.
Legal counsel Adam provided a brief legislative summary, saying two bills this year matter for redevelopment: new authority to use tax-increment financing (TIF) for child care facilities and a penalty for late pass-through June 15 analyses. Adam said a fuller update will be provided to the commission.
Chelsea delivered an economic update describing regional coordination (Western Partnership), a Martinsville Schools project near Henderson Ford where road design is complete and sewer extensions are planned (avoiding pump-and-haul), and early discussions about a western truck route around Mooresville. Commissioners also discussed press reports of a proposed large warehouse near Keller Mill on the Morgan County line and the community’s preference for housing in some areas.
The commission noted several expected absences for the next scheduled meeting and agreed staff will present the April 15 annual report to the council and the redevelopment commission prior to that meeting. The commission adjourned by voice vote.
