Kentwood Police plan summer emergency-response training at Kelloggsville Middle School

Officials from the Kentwood Police Department told the Kelloggsville Board of Education on March 23 that they plan to conduct four days of scenario-based emergency-response training at the middle school this summer.

Mr. Augustyn and Sgt. Kerry said the sessions are scheduled for June 5, 11, 18 and 26, running 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Training will use blank equipment only; no paintball or materials that could damage the building will be used, and multiple safety officers will supervise exercises. The facility will be clearly marked and secured during training, and neighboring properties and police dispatch will be notified in advance. Officers will participate in groups of roughly 20; district staff or board members may volunteer as role players but would need to sign waivers.

District staff noted that summer school will not be affected because it will take place at the high school. Presenters said the training will help officers become familiar with district facilities and improve response readiness. The board did not record a vote on the training plan at this meeting.
