The City of Jonesboro Public Safety Committee introduced and voted to forward three traffic-related ordinances to the full City Council during its meeting.
The first, Ordinance 26,008, would amend a prior ordinance to reinstate multi-way (four-way) stop signs at the Raines and Wilkins intersection. The committee discussed whether the ordinance would include enhanced flashing signage; staff clarified the text corrects an apparent mismatch in the recorded ordinance (it had been recorded as a two-way stop while the intersection functions as a four-way). A motion to forward the ordinance to the full council was made and carried.
The second item, Ordinance 26,009, would place various traffic signs as recommended by the Traffic Control Committee, including establishing a 25 mph speed limit on Hillcrest Drive between Nettleton Avenue and the identified endpoint. The committee moved to recommend the ordinance to the full council and the motion passed.
The third item, Ordinance 26,010, would add various traffic signs and establish a 20 mph speed limit along Main Street from Washington Avenue to Kate Avenue. The committee voted to forward this ordinance as well.
No roll-call vote tallies were read into the record; committee members registered votes on the in-room voting devices, and the chair announced each item ‘‘does pass’’ or ‘‘will be forwarded to the full council.’’ All three items will appear on an upcoming full council agenda for formal consideration.
