Members of the Georgia House honored Representative Dewey McClain on the floor as he prepared to leave the chamber after 13 years of service.
Speaker and colleagues presented a resolution recognizing McClain’s public service and invited him to address the House. McClain thanked the speaker and many colleagues, staff and interns, and reflected on his career and roots, saying he had been "truly blessed" and expressing gratitude for the support he had received during his tenure. He described long service to his district, recalled early election contests, celebrated relationships across caucuses and committees, and thanked family members watching remotely.
On the floor, the speaker praised McClain’s example of public service and asked members to recognize his wife and family for sharing him with the state. A group of members joined McClain at the well to present a formal resolution commending his service and achievements in the legislature.
The House paused its broader business to permit McClain to speak and to allow colleagues to present the resolution and offer brief remembrances. McClain yielded the well after an extended address and the House resumed its calendar.
