The Milford City Council voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 3-20-26, which incorporates the Utah Wildland-Urban Fire Code into city regulations.
A staff member advised the council that while House Bill 48 has generated debate about mapping of higher-restriction areas and there is rumor the bill could be tabled, the city still needs to adopt the current wildland-urban code to remain compliant. "I feel like adopting it is the right move for us to make so that we can comply with the house bill," the staff member said. Council members noted that any future changes driven by the state and regional pushback would likely be reflected by map modifications in the ordinance rather than wholesale changes to the code.
The ordinance was placed on the agenda as Ordinance 3-20-26; roll-call votes were recorded with council members answering in the affirmative and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff said the map showing the areas subject to higher restrictions is included with the ordinance and that any future modifications to the mapped zones would be handled in subsequent updates or amendments. The council did not record additional conditions as part of the adoption.
The ordinance takes effect according to the city's standard ordinance schedule; staff will follow up if the legislative situation warrants revisiting mapped zones.
