Councilors prioritized fleet and shop upgrades during the budget workshop, singling out a 10-wheeler as the highest equipment need and discussing shop safety and capacity improvements.
Staff presented a rough estimate of $200,000 for a new 10-wheeler (dump truck) and recommended making it the top capital priority because of winter maintenance demands and airport support needs. Councilors agreed to place the 10-wheeler as a priority 1 item for FY'27.
Participants also discussed a vehicle hoist and converter estimated at roughly $36,500 and whether to add an additional bay to the shop to accommodate larger lifts and eliminate the need for a service pit. Speaker 3 noted the existing pit is shallow and building a bay with a larger lift would be preferable for safety and operational flexibility.
The golf association’s wish list included a Toro aerator (price range cited at $5,000–$30,000), a towable top-dress sand spreader ($1,000–$3,000) and other smaller items that staff said can likely be purchased from operating funds. Staff recommended checking local contractor costs for aeration before buying an expensive unit.
No binding procurement decisions were finalized; councilors asked staff to return with firm quotes and options for financing (purchase, bond, or lease) so the council can weigh the long-term fiscal implications when finalizing the budget.
The meeting adjourned at 12:29 p.m.
