Committee recommends Lawler reappointment and two new trustees for Colorado School of Mines

The Senate Education Committee on March 18 heard a confirmation panel for three nominees to the Colorado School of Mines Board of Trustees and moved a favorable recommendation to the full Senate.

Paul Johnson, president of the Colorado School of Mines, introduced the nominees as David Lawler (seeking reappointment), Wendy Lee and Steven Fenberg. Lawler, speaking remotely from Seoul, described his 1990 petroleum engineering degree from the School of Mines and about 35 years in the energy industry. Wendy Lee said she is a technology entrepreneur focused on ecosystem building in quantum and space and said she wants to help students pursue entrepreneurship. Steven Fenberg said he was honored to be nominated and expressed support for Mines’ efforts to commercialize new technologies.

Senator Marchman moved a favorable recommendation to the full Senate for the three nominees. Committee members discussed placing Lee and Lawler on the consent calendar so they would proceed expeditiously to confirmation; the committee recorded that Lee and Lawler would go to the consent calendar while Fenberg would proceed to the full Senate on second reading. The committee’s motion(s) carried without objection and members welcomed the nominees to the School of Mines.

The committee’s action sends the nominees to the full Senate for final confirmation according to the chamber’s calendar and procedures.
