Senate Labor and Commerce reports SB 181 — seafood task force data-sharing bill

The Senate Labor and Commerce Committee on March 13 reported out Senate Bill 181, a bill developed from the seafood task force to authorize employee information disclosure and data sharing between the University of Alaska’s Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) and the Department of Labor.

Chair Senator Bjorkman opened the committee’s discussion and called for public testimony; none was offered. Tim Lampkin, staff to Senator Gary Stevens, told the committee the legislation is essentially a data-sharing collaboration intended to help policy makers analyze workforce information related to the seafood sector.

After the brief recap, a committee member moved to report SB 181 (version 34) to the Senate with individual recommendations and an attached fiscal note. Chair Bjorkman stated he heard no objection and the motion carried from committee.

The committee did not take additional testimony and provided no amendments on the floor; the bill was sent out of committee for further consideration by the full Senate.
