The Grant County Quorum Court met Feb. 20, 2024, at the Grant County Courthouse and approved a series of routine financial and administrative measures, including funding to replace the courtroom HVAC and a resolution authorizing procurement of federal surplus equipment.
County Judge Randy Pruitt opened the meeting and recorded seven justices present. The court voted 7-0 to accept the Jan. 16, 2024 minutes after a motion from Justice Paul Drake and a second from Justice Mark Allen.
Treasurer Tim Stuckey presented the county financial statement and noted a $10,500 donation to the Sheriff’s Office intended for purchase of a tracking dog. Justice Tony Carder moved to accept the financial statement; Justice Danny Bone seconded and the motion passed 7-0.
Ordinance 2024-02, an amendment to the 2024 budget to fund replacement of the courtroom HVAC, was presented by Judge Pruitt. He said an engineer evaluated the system and recommended installing three units because the existing system is old and was not providing heat. Justice Jason Roshto moved to adopt the ordinance; Justice Mark Allen seconded and the vote was 7-0 in favor.
Ordinance 2024-03, described by Treasurer Stuckey as the routine supplemental to reconcile 2023 line items, was read and approved after a motion by Justice Jason Roshto and a second from Justice Tony Carder; the vote was 7-0.
The court also considered Resolution 2024-01, described as required under Presidential Executive Order 14074 to permit procurement of military surplus property from the federal government. Sheriff Pete Roberts said the county can obtain useful items from Red River at no cost but noted there is a $500 annual fee to participate in the program. Treasurer Tim Stuckey requested a minor textual correction to the resolution; Justice Tony Carder moved to approve the corrected resolution, Justice Paul Drake seconded, and the resolution passed 7-0.
Two Calvert Fire Board members whose terms were up for renewal—Buddy Gibbs and Sheila Gesing—were reappointed by a 7-0 vote after a motion from Justice Mark Allen and a second from Justice Jim Easley.
The court reviewed a sales-tax report reflecting collections in November 2023; Justice Tony Carder said it was the largest month on record. Judge Pruitt reminded members that the March quorum meeting was rescheduled from March 18 to March 11 because of spring break. The meeting was then adjourned.
