Committee unanimously advances sunset bill for Secretary of State advisory board

Senator Henriksen presented House Bill 1180, a sunset measure that would dissolve an advisory board established to support Secretary of State data access and business‑intelligence efforts. Henriksen said the unit has largely completed the work of making Secretary of State records and business data more accessible online.

"The Secretary of State's office is, in many ways, a library for a lot of critical data about our state," Henriksen said, arguing that the advisory body’s mission has been fulfilled and recommending the sunset.

No witnesses signed up to testify. Senator Henriksen moved the bill to the Committee of the Whole with a favorable recommendation; the motion passed unanimously and the bill was placed on the consent calendar.

Next steps: HB 1180 was passed out of committee and is headed to the floor and the consent calendar.
