At its March regular session the Newport News City Council approved a series of ordinances and resolutions by unanimous votes.
Key approvals included:
- Adoption of an ordinance authorizing the city manager to execute documents to acquire property interests for the Warwick Landing Channel Improvement Project (public hearing closed and ordinance adopted 7-0).
- Conveyance of city‑owned property at 1709 27th Street to Union Baptist Church Trustees (ordinance adopted 7-0).
- Execution of a deed of easement granting a utility easement to Dominion for city property at 2401 Gs Avenue (ordinance adopted 7-0).
- A resolution approving updates to the city’s financial policies developed with PFM (approved 7-0).
- Approval to use the construction manager at risk delivery method for a municipal project at 11817 Cannon Boulevard and a waterworks project at 1451 48th Street, under the Virginia Public Procurement Act (both approved 7-0).
- Acceptance of Peninsula Community Foundation reimbursement up to $100,000 to reconstruct the Deer Park Little League concession stand (managing a net city cost drop from $130,000 to approximately $30,000) (approved 7-0).
- Acceptance of $16,210 in surplus funds from Newport News Occasions Inc. as the organization dissolves (approved 7-0).
The consent agenda, including recent work session minutes, was also approved by a 7-0 vote. Council members offered brief remarks of thanks where donors or community partners were noted.
