The Meadow Town Council voted to approve sponsorship funding for two FFA students to travel to Washington, D.C., in June.
Paisley Starley and Cambridge Ios asked the council to help defray travel costs for an educational trip that includes visits to the White House, the Declaration of Independence and meetings with congressional staff. Paisley said the trip would be a rare educational opportunity; Cambridge added the students would report back to the council about what they learned.
Council members discussed last year's practice and agreed to fund the students at the same amount provided to two students last year. A council member moved to fund each student the same amount paid to the prior students; another member seconded the motion. The chair called for the ayes and vocal approval followed; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally by individual names.
The chair also asked the students to return after the trip to present what they learned so the council and community could see how the sponsorship was used. Council members and attendees signaled support for the students as they left the meeting.
The students will leave in June and are expected to be away about a week. The council directed staff to complete payment paperwork following the meeting.
