The Meadow Town Council discussed scheduling budget workshops and preparing for a public hearing, with the chair urging members to review budget worksheets and identify potential projects that could affect next year’s spending.
The chair said the fiscal year is ending and proposed holding line-by-line workshops in late April and in May to prepare for a public budget hearing and a forthcoming LUI ordinance public hearing. "I'm gonna get you each a budget worksheet in the next week or so," the chair said, asking members to review what was budgeted last year and what was actually spent.
Why it matters: Council preparation ahead of a public hearing shapes what spending priorities are presented to residents. The chair named several projects that have surfaced recently and may need funding: street light decorations, park beautification, cemetery signs, and modest increases for road fuel and cemetery lawnmower maintenance related to a contract and electrical costs. The chair cautioned that the workshops could be one evening, a Saturday morning, or multiple sessions, and said staff (Monica) will supply 'percent burn to date' figures to aid planning.
The chair acknowledged members' scheduling conflicts in April and said they will circulate proposed dates: "Let me send something out, and we'll try and work through what a workshop would look like." The council agreed to post and share the selected date for public notice.
The meeting ended after a motion to adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made and seconded and the chair called for "all in favor," after which the meeting was declared adjourned.
No binding budget decisions were made at this meeting; the discussion focused on scheduling, preparation and potential small projects that could be considered in upcoming workshops.
