Board approves $895.52 tax refund to Ringling Ranch under state code

The Carter County Board of Commissioners approved and signed resolution O1302026901 authorizing a refund of $895.52 to Ringling Ranch LTD after county staff determined several parcels were billed to the previous owner following a sale.

County Treasurer Jesse explained staff rebilled the purchaser and recommended issuing the refund to the seller under the statutory authority cited in the resolution: Montana Code Annotated Title 15, Chapter 16, Part 6, which requires a refund when an error in the property description causes an overpayment. A motion to sign the resolution was moved and seconded; with no public comment the chair called the vote and the motion carried.

Treasurer staff said one of the taxpayers had been contacted and the other had not yet responded to mail but that the county would proceed with the refund in accordance with the code.
