The Scofield Town Council voted to allocate up to $2,500 for the town’s participation in a county Rock and Roll music festival scheduled for June 13, the council said at a March 13 special meeting.
Council members discussed timing, likely attendance and costs. Committee member (S4) relayed organizer estimates that a band might cost around $1,000, while the council recalled a past headline band that cost about $1,900. Members proposed seeking sponsorships and donations from local businesses to offset expenses and suggested a midafternoon time window—between other county concerts—to encourage attendance.
Safety and logistics were discussed: the chair (S1) raised concerns about past large gatherings and suggested the council consider security arrangements; council members noted the event could bring business to local stores and the bar. Committee member (S2) suggested soliciting small donations from business owners to help fund the event.
Chair (S1) asked for a motion to set an upper funding limit. Committee member (S2) proposed allocating $2,500 for Scofield’s event; Committee member (S4) seconded; the motion passed by voice vote. Council members said the amount could cover a modest band and related costs and that staff would work with organizers on scheduling and logistics.
The council adjourned shortly after the vote.
