The Huntington City Planning Commission paused its internal review of Title 9 on March 12 after staff said the mayor asked that the revised code be sent to the city council ordinance process.
Jessica Lee, planning and zoning administrator, told the commission the city received a large, roughly 207‑page package updating Title 9, funded in part by a state grant, and that the mayor asked staff to stop further local edits because the package is scheduled for a city council public hearing and ordinance on the 18th of the month. "The changes that you guys did make though are going in it," Lee said, noting that the definitions and conditional‑use updates the commission had previously discussed will be incorporated into the version sent to codifiers and the city code book.
Commissioners asked whether additional action was needed from the planning commission; Lee said no formal local approval was required at this meeting and that staff would ensure the general plan remains aligned with the city’s intent. One commissioner clarified the schedule and Lee said the council ordinance process will handle the formal adoption steps.
The commission’s action for now is procedural: staff will forward the revised Title 9 package to the codifiers and to city council for the ordinance hearing on the 18th, and the commission will resume any remaining implementation items after the council process is complete. The commission also agreed to review the general plan and suggested updates at a future meeting once the ordinance process has advanced.
