Council proclaims Latinas Run ATX Day; founder stresses empowerment and inclusive wellness

Council Member Jose Velasquez read a proclamation on March 12 declaring March 12, 2026 as Latinas Run ATX Day and credited the organization with expanding representation in wellness spaces.

Velasquez said Latinas Run ATX is "a woman led community organization based in Austin, Texas committed to expanding representation in wellness spaces," and noted the group helped open the Wishbone Bridge in East Austin.

Suzette Roman, identified in the proclamation as the founder of Latinas Run ATX, thanked the council and described the group’s goals: "My goal is just to continue to empower women and, again, remind everyone that wellness and health is an inclusive space for everyone," Roman said, noting the run club’s community-building and inclusive approach. She described the organization’s recent growth and said it helps participants form friendships and community.

City leaders and the organization posed for photos after the proclamation; no formal council action was taken beyond the recognition.
