Place-making manager Kayla Johnson announced at the March 12 Richardson Cultural Arts Commission meeting that the city’s fifth annual traffic-signal-box art contest is open through April 24.
“I'm so excited to announce that our traffic box signal contest is up and ready,” Kayla Johnson said, describing this year’s theme — “community” — and the prize and recognition package: a $100 award from the City of Richardson, a $100 award from the Richardson Rotary Club, a certificate of recognition at the May city council meeting, and a feature in the city’s communications channels.
Johnson said the program seeks artwork that “will tell us how they feel about the city of Richardson” and highlighted that winners will also be promoted through city communication outlets. The announcement included application logistics and a timeline; staff said more details are in the agenda packet and on the city’s event pages.
The contest is part of the commission’s broader public‑art and placemaking efforts to activate Richardson’s core district and provide visible opportunities for local artists. The commission did not take a vote on this item; staff will administer the contest and return results to the commission and council for recognition as planned.
